Pedagogical Training and Development
CETLI (Center for Excellence in Teaching, Learning, and Innovation) is the University of Pennsylvania’s hub for pedagogical training and development. During my time at Penn, I earned the CETLI Certificate in College and University Teaching and have completed several of their workshops and month-long mini-courses.
Additionally, CETLI organizes a university-wide, mandatory three-day training for first-time graduate Teaching Assistants (TAs) every summer. The TA Training Team—comprised of CETLI staff and experienced TAs—designs and leads this program. As a TA Trainer in both 2023 and 2024, I (1) collaborated with other TA Trainers to develop and hone our programming; (2) developed and hosted workshops about facilitating class discussions in the humanities and social sciences; and (3) facilitated experiential workshops centered around trainees’ teaching demonstrations.
Teaching Awards
Every year, graduate instructors are nominated by undergraduate students for the Penn Prize for Excellence in Teaching by Graduate Students, a teaching prize awarded by the Office of the Provost. In 2022, I was one of 10 students across the entire university to be awarded this prize. I feel really proud to have received this honor because nominations came directly from students I have taught and mentored.
